The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it deems “unjustified” visa bans issued by the US against five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official stated.
European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’
European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans targeted individuals that were at the heart of campaigns to introduce laws regulating US-based technology firms.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to coerce American platforms to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
