From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers parties.
Fans can anticipate learning which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
